Succulents and cacti have very different requirements from tropical houseplants. While they still need moisture to grow, their roots should never remain wet for extended periods.

The Folha Professional Succulent & Cacti Mix has been specifically formulated to provide the balance these plants need: enough moisture retention to support healthy growth, combined with significantly improved drainage, aeration and root-zone structure.

Our Formula

60% White Baltic Peat
20% Perlite
20% Silica / Drainage Sand

Premium White Baltic Peat forms the base of the mix.

It provides a lightweight, consistent growing medium capable of holding the moisture needed by the plant without the heaviness of ordinary garden soil.

The peat gives fine roots a stable growing environment while the additional mineral components dramatically increase drainage and aeration.

20% Perlite

Perlite creates essential air spaces throughout the soil.

It helps prevent the growing medium from compacting tightly around the roots and allows excess water to move through the pot more freely.

This increased oxygen around the root system is particularly important for succulents and cacti.

20% Silica / Drainage Sand

Our drainage sand adds mineral structure and weight while further improving the movement of water through the substrate.

Unlike a purely peat-based mix, the addition of silica helps create a more open growing environment and reduces excessive moisture retention around sensitive roots.

Why Succulents Need Different Soil

One of the most common mistakes with succulents and cacti is planting them in ordinary potting soil.

Standard houseplant mixes are generally designed to retain more moisture. For drought-adapted plants, that moisture can remain around the roots for too long—particularly indoors where evaporation is slower.

Our Succulent & Cacti Mix is intentionally more free-draining.

The combination of Baltic peat, perlite and silica creates a substrate that allows water to reach the roots when you irrigate while allowing excess moisture to drain away efficiently afterwards.

The result is a healthier balance between water, oxygen and root structure.
